Day Five and well on our way to the steak dinner if we can get two more wins.
The first game against MCLA was a short one. We beat them 10-0 in five innings. Everyone had a good day at the plate and more of the team was involved in this game with everyone earning an at bat. Since the game was finished so early and the team we were playing for the second game was still working on their first game, we had plenty of time to scout them.
We knew Polytechnic was going to be a great game from watching their first game. It went into extra innings with both teams scoring quite frequently. This worked to our advantage since this means they spent more time in the sun and that would hopefully tire them out some. It ended up being close with the final score being 2-1. We lost in 7 innings, but we definitely learned a lot in this game. We had some breakout hitters and going into the seventh we were down by two after a girl on the other team hit a homerun with a runner on first. At this point we could have given up, but the team rallied and scored a run with two outs.
Our team this year has a lot of potential. Even though we ended up falling short of the steak dinner, we learned that in situations when we are down, we can still fight our way back. Confidence at the plate was also found today, with big hits coming from all parts of the line-up. With a 5-3 record, we hope to keep building the wins and acquiring more skills that will help us in conference play once we get back to Ohio.
